If you’re looking for a fun, adventurous, outdoor activity around the Twin Cities, I would highly recommend visiting Vermillion Falls Park. Located just 40 minutes southeast of Minneapolis, in Hastings MN, the park offers incredible views of this urban waterfall which is set right next to a beautiful old factory.
Where is it?
Vermillion Falls Park is located just outside of Hasting’s charming downtown area. If you want to make a full afternoon out of it, you could explore the town too!
How long should I plan to stay?
We spent around an hour walking around the park and exploring the trails! I think you could definitely spend more time here though if you sit in the park or have a picnic.
How is the view?
Near the parking lot, you will find an observation deck, where you can easily view the falls from above.
There are walking and bike paths, but if you want to get up real close to the waterfall, you’ll have to make your way down a dirt path through the trees.
It’s a pretty commonly used path, so you shouldn’t have a problem finding it.
You can see from the picture above, just how close we were able to get to the waterfall! This view was incredible!
I was really glad that I wore tennis shoes. The path we took to the falls was pretty rocky, so I don’t think it would have been safe or enjoyable to make the trek in sandals. Make sure to plan accordingly if you too might venture off the paved path to get up close to the falls!
I loved exploring the trails and seeing the stunning waterfall up close. Vermillion Falls Park in Hastings has something for everyone!
Whether you’re looking for an easy walk around the park, a nice spot for a picnic, or a little adventure hike, you will enjoy the outdoors here.
Mitch and I both agreed, it was well worth the hour roundtrip drive from Minneapolis! So we will definitely be back. 🙂
